Lesson Plan Workout
While participating in one of my favorite Leslie Sansome walking videos, I heard something that got me thinking about lesson delivery. As she was wrapping up the workout, she stated that effective workouts begin with a warm up, then gradually build the intensity, then slow down, and end with a stretch. That’s what got me thinking. That sounds like an effective lesson doesn’t it? First there’s a warm up or “hook”, then you gradually build up the intensity by asking deep, thought provoking questions, model, and give them time to practice. You then close the lesson by re-stating your key points and give your students an opportunity to stretch by reflecting on what they’ve learned.
Wow! Now that’s a workout!
