PARENT COMMUNICATION

Have you made three positive contacts with parents? Parents or caregivers are you greatest advocate. Make the effort to contact the parents or caregiver of your students. Show them that you care about their child and that you have their child’s best interest at heart.

  • When writing a note or email reminder to be positive, be brief, be sure that the note is legible and that it is grammatically correct.
  • Check your spelling!
  • If you are making a phone call, practice what you want to say beforehand. Write a script or jot down the main points you’d like to make.
  • Again, be positive, be polite and be professional.

When contacting parents or caregivers remember the golden rule, “Do unto others as you would have do unto you.” What would you want to hear from your child’s teacher?
