MAKE EVERY MINUTE WORK FOR YOU!

When thinking about specific directions for different classroom situations (such as seatwork, group work, use of manipulatives, etc.) think about the procedures you want your students to follow. Establish procedures for sharpening pencils, lining up, dismissal, use of learning stations, sharing materials and other routines used throughout the day. Once you’ve decided on your procedures, be sure to teach them to your students. Students are not mind readers. You must communicate these expectations to them and then practice, practice, practice. It will take time, lots of practice, and lots of patience. And it will be well worth it!
Without procedures, behavior problems can occur. Establishing procedures communicates to students that good behavior is expected in all learning situations. This simple tip will keep your classroom running smooth and eliminate chaos and confusion.
Happy teaching!
