Sharpen Your Saw!

Summer is a great time to sharpen the saw. What exactly does that mean? Well, have you ever tried to cut something with scissors that are dull? Or cut with a dull knife? Frustrating and tedious isn’t it? You exert more effort than you would if the implements were sharp.
Stephen R. Covey lists “sharpening the saw” as the seventh habit in his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. Sharpening the saw means spending time meditating, relaxing, and polishing your teaching skills so that your mind is sharp. Developing new skills and sharpening the skills you already possess helps you to be more efficient in your teaching. Spend time this summer reading or attending workshops to sharpen your saw. In other words, sharpening the saw today will help you to sparkle and shine tomorrow!
